The Westin Miyako Kyoto is a historic luxury hotel that makes a convincing case for staying outside the busiest streets. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, modern rooms, thorough housekeeping and attentive staff; breakfast and the Spa KACHO hot springs are particular strengths. It’s a strong pick for temple sightseeing followed by a proper wind-down, rather than simply somewhere to sleep.

The trade-off is convenience: nearby Keage subway station and the complimentary Kyoto Station shuttle help, but this isn’t a walk-out-into-downtown base.
