#8 of 9 hotels in KL Sentral & Brickfields by Axel's take. KL Sentral & Brickfields is #4 of 6 places to stay in Kuala Lumpur. The best hotels in KL Sentral & Brickfields, ranked · Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur

Axel's take: 7.5/10

A practical budget base near KL Sentral, with comfort kept simple. a basic YMCA hostel with private rooms near KL Sentral, scored for what it is.

YMCA Kuala Lumpur is a basic hostel with private rooms, not a conventional three-star hotel. It’s a good pick for budget travelers who prioritize transport over polish: KL Sentral is roughly six minutes away on foot, with plenty of nearby places to eat. Agoda, Trip.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the location, while recent reviews also describe clean, comfortable rooms and friendly staff.

The trade-off is uneven room condition and limited extras. Some guests find it comfortable for the money; others describe tired fittings and sparse toiletries. Double and twin rooms have attached bathrooms, but triple rooms are sold with shared facilities—check carefully before booking. There are also reports of nighttime road noise. We’d choose it for a straightforward short stay, but skip it for polished interiors or reliable quiet.

  • Best for: budget travelers using KL Sentral; short city stays; small groups comfortable with shared bathrooms

  • Watch out for: shared bathrooms in triple rooms; uneven room condition and basic toiletries; possible nighttime road noise

  • Location: A short walk from KL Sentral, with Brickfields eateries nearby.

  • Rooms: Simple air-conditioned rooms; doubles and twins have attached bathrooms, while triples use shared facilities.

  • Cleanliness: Recent guests often praise clean rooms, though overall cleanliness ratings remain good rather than exceptional.

  • Service: Friendly staff receive repeated praise, with occasional less-positive reports.

  • Amenities: A café, lift, water dispenser and advertised free Wi-Fi cover the basics; confirm connectivity if essential.

  • Fees and surprises: On-site parking costs extra; sports facilities are offered at member rates rather than automatically included.
