#6 of 9 hotels in Chow Kit & Jalan TAR by Axel's take. Chow Kit & Jalan TAR is #5 of 6 places to stay in Kuala Lumpur. The best hotels in Chow Kit & Jalan TAR, ranked · Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur
Axel's take: 7.9/10
A practical shopping base with generous rooms and skyline views, but uneven upkeep. a mid-range high-rise hotel beside Jalan TAR’s shopping district, scored for what it is.
Premiera is a mid-range high-rise hotel in Menara MARA, and we’d choose it for Jalan TAR shopping rather than polished interiors. Booking.com and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the walkable access to SOGO, nearby eateries and public transport. Rooms are generously sized—the hotel lists entry-level rooms at about 30 square metres—and city views are a recurring highlight. Breakfast and friendly staff also earn plenty of positive mentions.
The compromise is consistency: recent guests report some dusty surfaces, tired carpets and room-equipment problems, alongside many clean, comfortable stays. Arrival takes some navigating, with reception on level 25 and lift changes from parking. Don’t assume parking is free; listings conflict, and guests mention validation. It’s a good practical base for shoppers and business visitors, but we’d skip it if immaculate finishes and effortless arrival matter most.
-
Best for: Jalan TAR and SOGO shoppers; business and conference visitors; travelers prioritizing room space
-
Watch out for: uneven housekeeping and room maintenance; level-25 reception and parking lift changes; parking charges and validation
-
Location: Strong for SOGO, textile shopping and eateries; Bandaraya station is a short walk.
-
Rooms: Spacious rooms and skyline views stand out; some furnishings and equipment show wear.
-
Cleanliness: Generally positive ratings, tempered by recent reports of dust and dirty carpets.
-
Service: Staff friendliness earns praise, though some guests report slow telephone responses.
-
Amenities: Coffee House, free Wi-Fi, meeting facilities and a prayer room; booking sites also list a gym.
-
Fees and surprises: Confirm breakfast inclusion and parking charges; ask about parking validation and level-25 check-in.
