#6 of 9 hotels in Bukit Bintang by Axel's take. Bukit Bintang is #1 of 6 places to stay in Kuala Lumpur. The best hotels in Bukit Bintang, ranked · Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur
Axel's take: 7.8/10
A practical city base with spacious rooms, but uneven five-star polish. an upscale city hotel with five-star billing near Bukit Bintang, scored for what it is.
Grand Mercure is an upscale city hotel with five-star billing, best chosen for space and location rather than flawless luxury. It’s a good base between Bukit Bintang and Chinatown, with shopping and street food within walking distance. Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the roomy accommodation and welcoming staff; the outdoor pool and gym add useful downtime between outings. We'd shortlist it for a comfortable, sightseeing-focused stay.
The trade-off is consistency. Recent reviews across Accor and Trip.com describe missed housekeeping requests and maintenance niggles, while some guests still find furnishings dated. Slow Wi-Fi is another recurring weakness, particularly relevant if you plan to work. Parking costs extra, and guests report no direct lift from the basement to the lobby. We'd skip it if polished luxury service or dependable connectivity is central to your trip.
-
Best for: sightseers exploring central Kuala Lumpur; travelers prioritizing room space; couples wanting a pool between outings
-
Watch out for: slow Wi-Fi; uneven housekeeping and maintenance; awkward basement parking access
-
Location: Convenient between Bukit Bintang and Chinatown, with dining and shopping walkable.
-
Rooms: Spacious and comfortable overall, though dated furnishings and bathroom maintenance draw repeat complaints.
-
Cleanliness: Generally praised across booking sites, but recent Accor guests report some housekeeping lapses.
-
Service: Warm staff earn frequent praise; requests and problem resolution are less consistent.
-
Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's pool, gym, restaurant and buffet breakfast.
-
Fees and surprises: Parking is charged; breakfast depends on your booking, and basement parking lacks a direct lobby lift.
