Axel's take: 8.9/10
A strong town-centre pick for warm service, traditional character and evenings in Buckley’s Bar. A historic, family-run 4-star in Killarney town centre, scored for what it is.
Arbutus is a historic, family-run 4-star in central Killarney, and we'd choose it for personal hospitality rather than sleek luxury. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the welcoming staff, comfortable beds and walkable location; breakfast also earns plenty of compliments. Individually furnished rooms and the adjoining Buckley’s Bar give it a distinctly traditional personality, with Irish music a particular draw.
The trade-offs are practical: Classic rooms lack air-conditioning, and only most Superior rooms have it, so confirm your room’s facilities. Parking is in nearby paid public car parks, with no reserved spaces. There’s no pool, spa or gym, and the hotel says it has no accessible bedrooms despite having a lift. We'd skip it if modern design, leisure facilities or an adapted room are essential.
