Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong choice for classic luxury and attentive service, but not resort-style leisure. a palatial 5-star city hotel on Jeddah’s Southern Corniche, scored for what it is.

The Ritz-Carlton, Jeddah is a palatial 5-star city hotel, strongest on traditional grandeur, comfortable rooms and personal service. We'd shortlist it for business trips or a special occasion rather than a beach holiday. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff and clean, comfortable accommodation; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort ratings support that picture. Sea-facing rooms add views of the Red Sea and King Fahd’s Fountain.

The main compromise is leisure: there is no swimming pool, and the hotel explicitly describes its spa as reserved for gentlemen. Some Expedia and Trip.com guests also report slow housekeeping, although positive service reports substantially outweigh those complaints. The ornate, old-school style will suit traditionalists more than design minimalists. We'd skip it if swimming or spa access for women is central to the trip.

• Best for: business and conference travelers; special-occasion city stays; fans of traditional luxury

• Watch out for: no swimming pool; spa reserved for gentlemen; occasional housekeeping delays

• Location: Southern Corniche setting, with Red Sea and fountain views from sea-facing rooms.

• Rooms: Classic, ornate interiors; guests generally praise comfort and sea-view accommodation.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia guest reports.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff draw repeated praise; housekeeping response can occasionally lag.

• Amenities: Restaurants, lounge and 24-hour gym; no pool, and the spa is advertised for gentlemen.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking and valet are complimentary; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.
