#5 of 9 hotels in Pham Ngu Lao & Bui Vien by Axel's take. Pham Ngu Lao & Bui Vien is #3 of 6 places to stay in Ho Chi Minh City. The best hotels in Pham Ngu Lao & Bui Vien, ranked · Where to stay in Ho Chi Minh City
Axel's take: 8.2/10
A comfortable central base with helpful staff, but daytime renovations complicate the stay. a full-service 4-star city hotel in District 1, scored for what it is.
Eden Star Saigon is a full-service 4-star in District 1, and we'd pick it for practical comfort rather than luxury. Booking.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and a convenient sightseeing location. The rooftop pool and bar give it an edge over a basic city hotel, while breakfast generally earns positive feedback. It's a strong fit for travelers spending most of their days exploring.
The important catch is guestroom renovation work: Expedia lists weekday daytime works from May 2 through December 31, 2026, with completion subject to change. Several 2026 guests report loud construction, although others weren't disturbed. Room fittings and bathroom layouts also vary, so confirm your preferred setup rather than relying on photographs alone. We'd skip it for a quiet working holiday or daytime naps until the hotel confirms the work is finished.
-
Best for: first-time city sightseers; couples wanting a rooftop pool; business travelers out during the day
-
Watch out for: weekday daytime guestroom renovations; variable room fittings and bathroom layouts; breakfast inclusion depends on booking
-
Location: District 1 base within roughly a 15-minute walk of Ben Thanh Market and Bui Vien.
-
Rooms: Generally comfortable; fittings vary, and some bathrooms have shower-over-bath arrangements.
-
Cleanliness: A consistent strength in guest feedback, including recent 2026 reviews.
-
Service: Friendly, helpful staff are repeatedly praised across sites.
-
Amenities: Outdoor rooftop pool, rooftop bar, restaurant, gym and spa facilities; not an indoor-pool hotel.
-
Fees and surprises: Confirm renovation status and breakfast inclusion; airport transfers and extra beds cost extra.
