#3 of 7 hotels in Cho Lon (Chinatown) by Axel's take. Cho Lon (Chinatown) is #5 of 6 places to stay in Ho Chi Minh City. The best hotels in Cho Lon (Chinatown), ranked · Where to stay in Ho Chi Minh City
Axel's take: 7.8/10
A practical Chinatown base with refreshed rooms, but some rough edges remain. a traditional 3-star hotel in Ho Chi Minh City’s Chinatown, scored for what it is.
Arc En Ciel, also called Thien Hong, is a traditional 3-star in Cho Lon, best chosen for Chinatown rather than downtown sightseeing. It’s a good pick for the money: recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, welcoming staff and convenient local dining. Trip.com lists a 2025 renovation, and newer guests describe refreshed bedrooms. Breakfast is included, though opinions on its quality vary.
The improvements haven’t reached every corner: recent feedback still flags tired corridors and an unimpressive lobby. English communication and booking coordination can also be uneven. A facade-upgrade project was approved in June 2026; its current status is unconfirmed, so ask about work before booking. We’d choose it for local food, temples or visiting nearby family, but skip it for polished surroundings or walking access to District 1’s main sights.
-
Best for: travelers exploring Chinatown; visiting family in Cho Lon; value-minded local-food seekers
-
Watch out for: away from District 1’s main sights; uneven English communication; facade-work status needs checking
-
Location: Handy for Cho Lon’s temples and eateries; downtown sightseeing requires transport.
-
Rooms: Reportedly renovated in 2025, with newer reviews more positive than the older record.
-
Cleanliness: Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests generally praise room and bathroom cleanliness.
-
Service: Friendly staff are a recurring strength, but communication and reservation handling get occasional criticism.
-
Amenities: Buffet breakfast, restaurant and free Wi-Fi; no pool, and breakfast feedback is mixed.
-
Fees and surprises: Confirm breakfast coverage for every guest and ask whether the approved facade upgrade affects your dates.
