#6 of 9 hotels in French Quarter by Axel's take. French Quarter is #2 of 5 places to stay in Hanoi. The best hotels in French Quarter, ranked · Where to stay in Hanoi

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong family base where apartment space and helpful staff outweigh dated interiors. An established, upscale serviced-apartment hotel in central Hanoi, scored for what it is.

Somerset Grand Hanoi is an upscale apartment hotel, not a boutique hideaway, and it's a strong pick for families who want room to spread out. Proper kitchens, in-apartment laundry and separate living areas make longer stays practical. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the space, cleanliness and helpful staff, while the outdoor pool and gym add useful downtime between outings. Hoa Lo Prison Museum is next door, with Hoan Kiem Lake within walking distance.

The compromise is polish: furnishings and bathrooms attract recurring comments about looking dated, even when guests find them clean and comfortable. Street noise also deserves attention. Management confirmed noisy city drainage works in April 2026; whether those works still affect the hotel is unclear, so light sleepers should check before booking. We'd choose it for practical comfort and family space, but skip it for fresh luxury interiors or reliably quiet nights.

  • Best for: Families needing multiple bedrooms; Longer stays with cooking and laundry; Groups prioritizing space over style

  • Watch out for: Dated furnishings and bathrooms; Street noise and uncertain drainage-work status; Breakfast not included in every booking

  • Location: Beside Hoa Lo Prison Museum, within walking distance of Hoan Kiem Lake and central sights.

  • Rooms: Generous apartments with kitchens and laundry; recurring feedback describes dated interiors.

  • Cleanliness: Generally praised across Booking.com and Expedia, despite occasional reports of musty smells.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a consistent strength across guest-review sites.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's pool, gym, sauna and pickleball court support family and longer stays.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast, extra beds and airport transfers can cost extra; confirm whether nearby drainage works remain disruptive.
