#2 of 9 hotels in French Quarter by Axel's take. French Quarter is #2 of 5 places to stay in Hanoi. The best hotels in French Quarter, ranked · Where to stay in Hanoi

Axel's take: 9.2/10

Hanoi’s grand historic address earns its reputation through service, character and location. a historic five-star luxury hotel in Hanoi’s French Quarter, scored for what it is.

The Metropole is a historic five-star hotel that largely delivers on luxury expectations, not just its famous name. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want old-world character within walking distance of Hoan Kiem Lake. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise thoughtful staff, immaculate rooms and generous breakfasts; the courtyard bars, spa and guest-only history tour give it substance beyond the architecture.

Choose your wing deliberately: Heritage emphasizes period atmosphere, while Opera offers a more contemporary interpretation. The hotel’s October announcement confirms Opera Wing refurbishment finished in late September 2026, so summer construction complaints predate completion. The pool can feel busy, with limited loungers, and some Heritage rooms feel darker than guests expect. We’d skip it if bright, contemporary interiors or resort-style pool lounging matter more than history and highly personal service.

  • Best for: history-minded luxury travelers; couples celebrating a special occasion; first-time Hanoi visitors

  • Watch out for: limited pool loungers at busy times; some darker Heritage Wing rooms; breakfast and club benefits depend on booking

  • Location: French Quarter setting, a short walk from the Opera House and Hoan Kiem Lake.

  • Rooms: Distinct Heritage and Opera wings; Opera rooms and corridors were refurbished by late September 2026.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength: Tripadvisor’s cleanliness rating and recent Expedia reviews are consistently strong.

  • Service: Attentive, personalized staff are the most consistent cross-site highlight, despite occasional uneven moments.

  • Amenities: Heated outdoor pool, spa, gym, six restaurants and bars, plus a guest-only history and bomb-shelter tour.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast and lounge inclusions; airport transfers cost extra, and the official site excludes parking.
