Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong sightseeing base, with standout staff and some compact, dated rooms. a traditional 3-star hotel in Genoa’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Best Western Hotel Metropoli is a traditional 3-star in Genoa’s historic center, and we’d pick it for exploring on foot rather than spending hours in the room. Via Garibaldi is close by, with the old town and waterfront within easy walking reach. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and a varied breakfast; the hotel’s buffet includes local focaccia and regional produce. It delivers the essentials well for its class.

The trade-offs are room size and consistency of style: some guests find their rooms compact or dated, despite the hotel’s contemporary presentation. Noise crops up in some reports, though others describe quiet stays. Parking is paid and off-site, so drivers should plan their arrival. We’d skip it if spacious, uniformly modern rooms or effortless parking are priorities.

Best for: car-free sightseeing breaks; couples exploring the historic center; families wanting a central base
Watch out for: some compact, dated rooms; occasional noise complaints; paid off-site parking
Location: Excellent walking base near Via Garibaldi, old-town sights and restaurants.
Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms with kettles and parquet floors; size and perceived modernity vary.
Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent guest reviews and strong aggregate cleanliness ratings.
Service: Helpful reception and breakfast staff are recurring strengths across sites.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, bar, breakfast buffet and family rooms; practical rather than extensive facilities.
Fees and surprises: Budget for off-site parking and tourist tax; confirm breakfast inclusion. Small pets carry a supplement.
