Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong-value Bur Dubai base with useful studios and consistently praised staff. A practical mid-range aparthotel in Bur Dubai, scored for what it is.

Savoy Central is a practical mid-range aparthotel in Bur Dubai, and a strong pick if space and everyday convenience matter more than resort polish. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the helpful staff and cleanliness. Studios have kitchenettes and washing machines, making longer stays and family trips easier. The rooftop pool, gym and free beach shuttle add useful extras, while nearby supermarkets and restaurants make self-catering straightforward.

The main compromise is the setting: this is busy, lived-in Dubai, not a beachfront retreat. Street-facing rooms can pick up traffic noise; light sleepers should request a rear-facing studio. The nearest metro is about a ten-minute walk, rather than immediately outside. We'd choose it for a comfortable, practical stay exploring older Dubai, but skip it for a quiet resort holiday or luxury-hotel atmosphere.

• Best for: Families who want self-catering facilities; Longer stays; Value-minded Old Dubai explorers

• Watch out for: Traffic noise in street-facing studios; Around ten minutes' walk to the metro; No alcohol served

• Location: Busy Bur Dubai setting with shops and eateries nearby; Sharaf DG metro is about ten minutes on foot.

• Rooms: Generously sized studios with kitchenettes and washing machines; request a rear-facing room for less traffic noise.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback on Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are the clearest recurring highlight across review sites.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, children's pool, gym, sauna, steam rooms, café, free parking and a complimentary beach shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: City tourism tax applies; breakfast may cost extra depending on the booking, and early arrival or late departure can incur fees.
