Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong airport stay with standout service, though renovations currently trim the dining choices. a five-star airport hotel with resort-style grounds and extensive conference facilities, scored for what it is.

Le Méridien Dubai is a five-star airport hotel with more breathing room than the usual stopover: landscaped gardens, multiple pools and substantial dining and conference facilities. We'd pick it for a comfortable layover or business stay rather than a glamorous Dubai holiday. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise attentive staff, clean, spacious rooms and breakfast; Booking.com's strong cleanliness and comfort ratings reinforce that picture.

The compromises are location and consistency of style: you're near DXB, not on the beach or in Downtown, and some guests find the rooms dated. Marriott currently confirms enhancement works, with Long Yin, Kiku, Beef Bistro and Bebemos closed; Village Terrace is also listed as temporarily closed, alongside some outdoor areas. Check what's available before booking. The official site also says there is no airport shuttle, so arrange transport. We'd skip it for a sightseeing-first or beachfront stay.

• Best for: comfortable airport stopovers; business and conference travelers; travelers who value pools and attentive service

• Watch out for: restaurant and outdoor-area closures during enhancements; some dated room interiors; no airport shuttle currently advertised

• Location: Convenient for DXB; less compelling for beach holidays or sightseeing centered on Downtown.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; some guests find the décor dated.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and major booking-site ratings.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise on Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Multiple outdoor pools, spa, gym and extensive dining; confirm current access during enhancements.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking and valet are complimentary; arranged airport transfers cost extra, and several venues are temporarily closed.
