Axel's take: 8.9/10

Big-suite grandeur and acclaimed service, but restoration puts stays on hold. An ultra-luxury all-suite island hotel, currently closed for restoration, scored for what it is.

Burj Al Arab is an ultra-luxury, all-suite hotel on its own island, built for travelers who want Dubai at its most theatrical. Before closure, Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praised the enormous sea-view suites, meticulous housekeeping and attentive staff, especially the butlers. Our verdict: a strong special-occasion choice for people who enjoy unapologetically ornate surroundings; its appeal goes beyond the famous silhouette.

The immediate catch is decisive: the hotel is temporarily closed for restoration. Jumeirah announced an approximately 18-month programme on April 15, 2026; confirm reopening directly before planning a stay. This assessment reflects the pre-closure hotel, not the finished renovation. Some guests found the interiors dated, and the gold-heavy style will never suit minimalists. We'd skip it for a trip now, and reserve judgment on whether the restored version delivers the same service.

Best for: Future special-occasion stays; Travelers who enjoy ornate luxury; Guests prioritizing suite space and butler service
Watch out for: Temporarily closed for restoration; Reopening timing needs direct confirmation; Pre-restoration interiors divided opinion
Location: Private-island setting off Jumeirah Beach, with sweeping sea views rather than a city-center base.
Rooms: Large duplex suites were a defining strength; some pre-closure guests considered the decor dated.
Cleanliness: A standout before closure, with strong housekeeping feedback across major guest-review sites.
Service: Butlers and personalized attention attracted repeated praise before closure.
Amenities: Pre-closure highlights included terrace pools, Talise Spa and destination restaurants; reconfirm the reopening lineup.
Fees and surprises: The restoration closure is the main issue; future inclusions, deposits and charges need fresh confirmation.
