Axel's take: 7.8/10

Big rooms and skyline views make a good base, but expect lift queues. a 4-star high-rise city hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, scored for what it is.

Gevora is a 4-star high-rise city hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road, strongest on room space, skyline views and access to Financial Centre metro. It's a good pick if you want a central sightseeing base rather than a resort. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious rooms and helpful staff, while recent Expedia reviews also support generally good cleanliness. The elevated pool deck adds a worthwhile place to unwind between outings.

The main compromise is getting around inside the tower: lift waits recur in guest feedback, with some reporting particularly long queues at busy times. Tripadvisor reviews also flag uneven maintenance and slow responses to requests, although these aren't everyone's experience. No alcohol is served, and cooking isn't allowed even where rooms have kitchenettes. We'd skip it if polished, consistently efficient service matters more than space and views.

• Best for: metro-based sightseeing; travelers prioritizing spacious rooms; city-view seekers

• Watch out for: recurring lift queues; uneven maintenance and service responsiveness; no alcohol served or in-room cooking

• Location: Near Financial Centre metro, convenient for DIFC and rail connections to Dubai's main sights.

• Rooms: Generous room sizes and skyline views; some guests report dated finishes and maintenance issues.

• Cleanliness: Generally well reviewed, with recent Expedia guests repeatedly praising clean rooms and daily housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly staff earn frequent praise, but request handling and busy-period check-in can be slow.

• Amenities: Elevated outdoor pool, children's pool, gyms, sauna, steam room and several dining options.

• Fees and surprises: Tourism fee and refundable cash damage deposit apply; kitchenettes cannot be used for cooking.
