Axel's take on North Vancouver & Lonsdale Quay: #6 of 8 in Vancouver, 5.9/10
A good family base when the North Shore matters to your trip. Lower Lonsdale offers waterfront character and reasonable value, but fewer nearby choices and a SeaBus crossing for downtown sightseeing pull it below the central bases.
Lower Lonsdale gives you a self-contained waterfront neighbourhood rather than a remote suburban retreat. The Quay's food hall, Shipyards restaurants, Polygon Gallery and public waterfront spaces make staying local worthwhile. Seasonal skating and splash-play facilities add family appeal, and the SeaBus crossing supplies a memorable arrival downtown without driving over a bridge.
Choose it when North Shore outings are central to the trip, or you prefer returning to a smaller evening scene. Grouse, Capilano and hiking trails still require onward transport; they are not outside the door. Daily crossings add waiting and walking time, Lonsdale climbs uphill, and waterfront events can interrupt the otherwise calmer pace.
- Best for: families, a quiet stay
- Skip it if: Most of your plans are downtown; You want spontaneous late-night city outings
- Getting around: SeaBus connects Lonsdale Quay with Waterfront in 12 minutes; local buses serve North Shore attractions; from YVR take the Canada Line, then SeaBus.
- After dark: Shipyards restaurants and breweries provide an evening scene without Granville's club concentration, though festivals and waterfront events can be noisy.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $202 a night · usually 6% under the public rate

What paying more buys
Seaside costs more than Coast Lonsdale Quay and buys modern coastal styling, rainfall showers and a spa. It does not automatically buy a water view or a large room. Coast is enough if the market, SeaBus and North Shore outings will occupy most of your stay. Typical rates with Axel here run from $154 a night at Coast Lonsdale Quay Hotel to $249 at Seaside Hotel (last 30 days).
