Axel's take on My Dinh & Cau Giay: #5 of 5 in Hanoi, 5.0/10
Stay here for western meetings or stadium events, not classic Hanoi sightseeing. Strong hotels and reasonable value cannot overcome the weakest sightseeing access and a spread-out setting better suited to work than general exploring.
Pham Hung and Tran Duy Hung are modern Hanoi: office towers, malls and wide roads, with Korean restaurants clustered around Tran Van Lai. The National Convention Center and My Dinh Stadium are the reasons to sleep here, not incidental extras. For meetings or an event nearby, avoiding a cross-city commute can matter more than heritage atmosphere.
For a normal sightseeing break, this is the weakest base. Destinations are spread out, crossings can be tiring, and evenings revolve around dinner rather than an easy historic stroll. Line 3 does not yet continue underground into central Hanoi. Skip it unless your itinerary genuinely points west.
- Best for: business trips and conventions, sports fans
- Skip it if: Your trip is mainly Old Quarter and historic sights; You want pleasant sightseeing walks from your door
- Getting around: Use local buses and rides around Pham Hung and Tran Duy Hung; Line 3 serves northern Cau Giay rather than the convention-center streets and currently ends at Cau Giay; from HAN, bus 109 reaches My Dinh, followed by a local ride.
- After dark: Korean dining streets stay social over dinner, while office stretches are quieter; this is not a compact bar-hopping neighborhood.
- Rates: Typical Axel rate $96 a night

Where to look in My Dinh & Cau Giay
- Duy Tan. An office-heavy technology hub suits nearby meetings and longer business stays, not historic sightseeing on foot. Hotels here: Mövenpick Living West Hanoi, Grand K Hotel Suites Hanoi, Novotel Suites Hanoi, My Way Hotel & Residence.
- Mieu Dam. Choose this convention-center pocket to shorten workday journeys; central Hanoi remains a separate outing. Hotels here: JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi, A25 Premium Hotel - 16 Mieu Dam, Gloud Hotel.
- Le Duc Tho. A practical stadium-event base; expect crowds around big events rather than a leisurely historic evening stroll. Hotels here: Sheraton Hanoi West.
How to choose
- Choose JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi if you want generous rooms, attentive service and substantial facilities around a convention or family stay.
- Choose A25 Premium Hotel - 16 Mieu Dam if convention-center access and included breakfast matter more than luxury facilities.
- Choose Sheraton Hanoi West if My Dinh Stadium is your destination and you want spacious rooms with a pool and spa.
What paying more buys
A25 Premium Hotel - 16 Mieu Dam is cheaper than most here, with comfortable rooms and included breakfast; JW Marriott adds larger rooms, an indoor pool, spa, gardens and children’s activities. Around Duy Tan, My Way Hotel & Residence costs less than Mövenpick Living West, which adds an indoor saltwater pool and sauna. Skip the premiums if meetings leave little time for hotel facilities. Typical rates with Axel here run from $61 a night at Gloud Hotel to $39,027 at Reyna Hotel Hanoi (last 30 days).
