Axel's take: 8.3/10
A strong Trastevere base with helpful staff, rooftop views and some soundproofing compromises. a small, independent 3-star in Trastevere, scored for what it is.
Hotel San Francesco is a small, independent 3-star that makes a strong base for enjoying Trastevere without staying right amid its busiest nightlife. Recent Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, cleanliness and restaurant-filled neighborhood. The rooftop terrace adds something beyond the basics, while Jacopa provides dinner and cocktails downstairs. We'd pick it for a straightforward, personable city stay rather than polished interiors or extensive facilities.
The compromises are compact rooms, some tired finishes and soundproofing: thin walls recur across Booking.com and Tripadvisor reviews, despite many guests describing peaceful stays. Air-conditioning feedback is mixed, too. The hotel says rooftop bar service runs June through October, and breakfast isn't included in every booking. We'd skip it if you're particularly noise-sensitive, need generous room space or require wheelchair facilities, which the official website says aren't available.
