#1 of 6 hotels in Nungambakkam by Axel's take. Nungambakkam is #2 of 10 places to stay in Chennai. The best hotels in Nungambakkam, ranked · Where to stay in Chennai
Axel's take: 8.8/10
Warm hospitality and strong dining make this a dependable Chennai luxury choice. a traditional five-star city hotel in central Chennai, scored for what it is.
Taj Coromandel is a traditional five-star city hotel in Nungambakkam, and we'd choose it for attentive hospitality and dining rather than cutting-edge design. Recent Tripadvisor, Expedia and Agoda guests repeatedly praise the staff, cleanliness and breakfast. Southern Spice and Golden Dragon add appeal, while the outdoor pool, gym and spa round out a strong business or family base.
The caveats are room selection and access. Taj advertises renovated categories, but some guests find their rooms ordinary for the luxury bracket; confirm exactly which category you're booking. Service is overwhelmingly well reviewed, though communication and responsiveness occasionally slip. Recent guests also describe Chennai Metro construction complicating arrivals. Taj's room-refurbishment notice ran through October 15, 2026; confirm completion before booking. We'd skip it if contemporary interiors or hassle-free street access matter most.
