Axel's take: 8.8/10

A dependable downtown choice with spacious rooms, strong service and manageable city-hotel drawbacks. a full-service 4-star convention hotel in downtown Calgary, scored for what it is.

Hyatt Regency Calgary is a full-service 4-star convention hotel that gets the important things right. We'd pick it for a downtown stay: Stephen Avenue's restaurants and shops are outside, and recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. The 18th-floor indoor pool, whirlpool and gym give it an edge beyond business basics, while Stillwater Spa adds an option for downtime.

The trade-offs are mostly practical. Parking costs extra, and several guests describe a cramped arrival area or frustrating garage experience, though others find parking straightforward. Some Tripadvisor guests report traffic and C-Train noise, so light sleepers should request a quieter room away from elevators. Breakfast isn't automatically included; check your booking's inclusions. It's a strong fit for conferences and exploring on foot, less so for travelers prioritizing silence or easy car access.

• Best for: conference and business travelers; car-free downtown sightseeing; couples wanting pool and spa facilities

• Watch out for: paid parking and cramped vehicle access; possible street, train or elevator noise; breakfast depends on booking inclusions

• Location: Central downtown setting beside Stephen Avenue, near C-Train stops and the convention centre.

• Rooms: Guests consistently praise generous space and comfortable beds; noise varies by room.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent guest reviews, with especially strong Expedia cleanliness ratings.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff receive repeated praise across Expedia and Tripadvisor reviews.

• Amenities: Indoor pool, whirlpool, steam room, 24-hour gym, Stillwater Spa and on-site dining.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and spa treatments cost extra; breakfast and Regency Club access depend on the booking.
