Axel's take: 7.5/10

Good basic comfort and useful freebies, but renovations limit its appeal right now. a straightforward budget chain hotel in Calgary’s Motel Village, scored for what it is.

This is a straightforward budget chain hotel in Motel Village, not an on-campus university hotel. We’d consider it for a practical northwest Calgary stay: Banff Trail CTrain is close, parking and hot breakfast are included, and recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff. Tripadvisor feedback also supports the friendly-service picture, though the building’s condition draws more mixed reactions.

The main catch is ongoing renovation. Booking sites list exterior, parking-area and meeting-space work through December 31, 2026, with the business center unavailable; the indoor pool and hot tub are also listed as closed. Recent guests describe some refreshed rooms alongside worn hallways. It’s a reasonable base if breakfast, parking and transit matter most. We’d skip it for a pool-focused family trip or if you want a fully polished hotel.

• Best for: budget-conscious northwest Calgary visitors; travelers using the CTrain; drivers who value included parking

• Watch out for: indoor pool and hot tub listed as closed; renovations scheduled through December 2026; not on the university campus

• Location: Motel Village base near Banff Trail CTrain and McMahon Stadium; university destinations may require a longer walk.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, with some recently refreshed rooms, but guests still report wear in older areas.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia reviews are predominantly positive about room cleanliness.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength across Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Amenities: Hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, parking and a gym; pool and hot tub listed as closed, business center unavailable.

• Fees and surprises: Pet fees apply; renovation notices include the exterior, parking area and meeting facilities through December 31, 2026.
