Axel's take: 7.2/10

A practical budget base with useful extras, but tired rooms need more consistent care. a no-frills budget chain hotel near the university and CTrain, scored for what it is.

This no-frills budget chain hotel earns its place through convenience rather than polish. Banff Trail CTrain station is across the street, with the university and McMahon Stadium nearby. Free parking, included hot breakfast and an indoor pool with waterslide make it a practical pick for families and university visits. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests regularly praise the beds, breakfast and helpful staff.

The trade-off is an aging building: worn furnishings, bathrooms needing attention and uneven housekeeping crop up across reviews. Recent feedback is mostly positive on Expedia, but Tripadvisor includes sharper complaints about cleanliness and staff handling of problems. We'd choose it for a straightforward, budget-conscious stay, not a special occasion. Skip it if fresh interiors and reliably meticulous cleaning matter more than location and included extras.

• Best for: budget-conscious university visitors; families wanting a pool and breakfast; travelers using the CTrain

• Watch out for: dated rooms and bathrooms; uneven housekeeping and problem handling; service and safe fees; deposits required

• Location: Across from Banff Trail CTrain, convenient for the university and McMahon Stadium.

• Rooms: Beds often earn praise, but furnishings and bathrooms show their age.

• Cleanliness: Many recent guests report clean rooms, alongside some significant housekeeping misses.

• Service: Generally praised on Expedia; Tripadvisor reports less consistent problem handling.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, free parking, Wi-Fi, gym, indoor pool, waterslide and hot tub.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists deposits, a nightly service fee and a safe fee; confirm which charges apply.
