Axel's take: 7.7/10

A practical budget base with good breakfast and family-friendly pool extras. a no-frills budget chain hotel on Macleod Trail, scored for what it is.

Comfort Inn & Suites South is a no-frills budget chain hotel that makes a good case for a short Calgary stay. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and friendly staff, while the included hot breakfast earns consistent approval. Free parking and an indoor pool with a waterslide add useful value, particularly for families.

The location works better as a practical base near Chinook Centre than as a downtown sightseeing doorstep. A recent guest flags traffic noise in street-facing rooms, so we'd request the parking-lot side. Tripadvisor feedback also suggests keeping expectations modest for the pool's size. It's a good pick for budget-conscious drivers and families; we'd skip it for a polished hotel experience or a downtown-first trip.

• Best for: budget-conscious travelers with a car; families wanting a pool and waterslide; short stays near Chinook Centre

• Watch out for: possible traffic noise in street-facing rooms; compact pool area; not a downtown doorstep

• Location: Near Chinook Centre, with restaurants nearby and a roughly ten-minute walk to 39th Avenue station.

• Rooms: Simple rooms with microwaves and fridges; recent guests frequently praise comfortable beds.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia and Trip.com reviews consistently favor room cleanliness.

• Service: Recent feedback is strongly positive about staff, despite some older reservation-handling complaints.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast, Wi-Fi, indoor pool, waterslide, hot tub and fitness room.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; a security deposit is listed, and early check-in or late checkout can cost extra.
