Axel's take: 8.5/10

Strong practical value near campus, with atrium noise the main catch. a full-service 3-star near the University of Calgary, scored for what it is.

This full-service 3-star, formerly Best Western Plus Village Park Inn, is a strong pick for university visits, hospital appointments and family trips. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Included hot breakfast, free outdoor parking and nearby Banff Trail CTrain access make it a practical alternative to staying downtown. The indoor pool, hot tub and in-room microwaves and fridges add useful value.

The main compromise is noise: Tripadvisor and Trip.com guests describe sound carrying from the central pool atrium, particularly when children or sports groups are around. Underground parking now costs extra, despite older reviews calling it free. Following the July 2026 Coast rebrand, APA announced lobby and selected-room renovations; completion is unconfirmed, so check before booking. We'd skip it for a quiet retreat or a downtown doorstep.

• Best for: university and hospital visitors; families wanting useful amenities; drivers exploring Calgary

• Watch out for: pool-atrium noise; paid underground parking; confirm renovation status

• Location: Near campus and McMahon Stadium, with Banff Trail CTrain a short walk away; outside downtown.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, with microwaves and fridges; sound insulation is the main weakness.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong feedback, including recent Expedia praise for housekeeping.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength across review sites.

• Amenities: Included hot breakfast, restaurant, gym, indoor pool and hot tub; pool access requires stairs.

• Fees and surprises: Outdoor parking is free; underground parking costs extra. Announced lobby and room upgrades have no confirmed completion date.
