#8 of 9 hotels in Herăstrău & Romexpo by Axel's take. Herăstrău & Romexpo is #7 of 7 places to stay in Bucharest. The best hotels in Herăstrău & Romexpo, ranked · Where to stay in Bucharest

Axel's take: 7.7/10

Comfortable old-school rooms, but lake restoration currently weakens the main attraction. a simple 3-star inside Bucharest’s Herastrau Park, scored for what it is.

Hotel Herastrau is a small, old-school 3-star whose park setting makes more sense for a slower stay than a sightseeing sprint. Booking.com guests praise the staff and location, while Tripadvisor’s July 2026 review describes spacious, clean rooms and a generous breakfast. We'd consider it for straightforward comfort and free parking, not contemporary design.

The biggest caveat is outside: Herastrau Lake has been drained for shoreline rehabilitation, and TVR reported stalled work and excavations on October 1, 2026. That substantially reduces the appeal of booking specifically for lake views. Bathrooms and furnishings also lean dated, and Expedia lists no elevator. We'd skip it for a polished city break or if stairs are difficult; otherwise, confirm the current lakeside conditions before committing.

  • Best for: travelers with a car; families wanting park space; guests comfortable with traditional decor

  • Watch out for: drained lake and shoreline rehabilitation; dated bathrooms and furnishings; no elevator listed

  • Location: Inside Herastrau Park in northern Bucharest; lake rehabilitation currently compromises the setting.

  • Rooms: Guests describe spacious rooms, but decor and bathrooms are old-fashioned.

  • Cleanliness: Generally positive: Booking.com rates cleanliness around 8.5, supported by recent Tripadvisor feedback.

  • Service: A consistent strength, with Booking.com staff ratings around 9 and positive guest comments.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, breakfast lounge, free Wi-Fi, playground and free parking; tennis and bicycles cost extra.

  • Fees and surprises: The official site allows small pets in a designated room for a fee, contrary to some booking listings; confirm directly.
