#4 of 9 hotels in Universitate & Rosetti by Axel's take. Universitate & Rosetti is #3 of 7 places to stay in Bucharest. The best hotels in Universitate & Rosetti, ranked · Where to stay in Bucharest
Axel's take: 8.1/10
A strong central base with skyline views, but not consistently five-star polish. an old-school five-star high-rise on University Square, scored for what it is.
Grand Hotel Bucharest is an old-school five-star high-rise whose location, views and welcoming staff make it a strong city-break base. Formerly InterContinental, it has operated independently since January 2022. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful reception staff. Universitate metro is at the door, Old Town is walkable, and the complimentary 22nd-floor pool, sauna and gym add genuine appeal.
The compromise is condition rather than character: dated furnishings and maintenance niggles recur across recent reviews, and breakfast earns mixed reactions. July 2026 guests reported the lobby bar and sunbathing terrace closed for renovations, plus a broken Jacuzzi; management acknowledged the works, but reopening is unconfirmed. Check those facilities before booking. We'd choose it for sightseeing and skyline views, but skip it for pristine contemporary luxury; travelers with mobility limitations should request a walk-in shower.
-
Best for: sightseers who want a central base; travelers who enjoy skyline views; guests who value a pool and sauna
