Axel's take: 8.7/10
A comfortable, pet-friendly Bend base with more personality than the usual roadside hotel. An independently owned, refreshed 3-star roadside hotel, scored for what it is.
Waypoint is an independently owned, refreshed 3-star roadside hotel, not the Red Lion still listed in some catalogs. It’s a strong pick for a practical Bend stay: Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff. The lobby’s local beer taps, outdoor fire pits, seasonal pool and year-round hot tub give it more character than a standard motel, while free parking makes exploring easy.
The setting is a commercial stretch rather than downtown’s most appealing streets; expect roughly a 20-minute walk to the center. There’s no included breakfast, although Black Bear Diner is next door. Some guests find the room furniture crowds the floor space, and a recent Tripadvisor guest reported poolside noise. Light sleepers should request a room away from the pool. We’d skip it if you need an elevator or want downtown immediately outside your door.
