Lansdown Grove is a historic 4-star mansion hotel on the hill above Bath, and we’d choose it for character rather than polished luxury. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds. Some rooms overlook the city, and the restaurant, bar and library give it more personality than a straightforward overnight stop.

The trade-offs are substantial: it’s a steep walk back from sightseeing, there’s no air-conditioning, and not every bedroom is accessible directly by lift. The official website still advertises balcony maintenance, scaffolding and daytime works starting in March 2026; confirm what affects your room rather than assuming the work has finished. Parking is paid and first-come, first-served. It’s a good fit for a characterful city break, but we’d skip it for guaranteed quiet or easy step-free access.
