Axel's take: 6.1/10

Useful budget basics, but uneven upkeep makes this a cautious pick. a no-frills 2-star roadside motel off I-35, scored for what it is.

This is a no-frills 2-star roadside motel off I-35, not a walkable university-area base. Free parking, Wi-Fi and a light breakfast, plus in-room microwaves and refrigerators, make it practical for a short, car-based stay. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests often praise the front desk, and some report clean, spacious rooms. We'd consider it for a basic overnight, rather than choose it confidently for a longer visit.

The trade-off is inconsistent condition and comfort. Recent Expedia reviews describe worn bathrooms, uncomfortable mattresses and disappointing cleaning, alongside much happier stays; Tripadvisor also records maintenance issues. Breakfast is basic, and elevator problems recur across sources. Booking.com's overall rating is noticeably stronger than Expedia's, so experiences clearly vary. We'd skip it if dependable housekeeping, fresh rooms or an easy campus-and-downtown location matter most.

• Best for: budget travelers with a car; short roadside stopovers

• Watch out for: uneven cleaning and worn bathrooms; recurring elevator and mattress complaints; not a walkable campus base

• Location: Off I-35 in north Austin; plan on driving to UT and downtown.

• Rooms: Microwaves and refrigerators are useful; wear and bed comfort vary considerably.

• Cleanliness: Some guests report clean rooms, but recent complaints make consistency a concern.

• Service: Friendly front-desk staff are a recurring bright spot across guest reviews.

• Amenities: Light breakfast and Wi-Fi included; Wyndham advertises an outdoor pool, hot tub and gym.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is free; a damage deposit is required, and early arrival or late departure can cost extra.
