Axel's take: 5.8/10

Friendly staff and free parking don't outweigh recurring cleanliness and maintenance problems. A basic 2-star roadside motel north of downtown Austin, scored for what it is.

This is a basic 2-star roadside motel beside I-35, not a walkable downtown base despite the name. It can work for a budget overnight with a car: parking and Wi-Fi are free, pets stay free, and recent Expedia guests often praise helpful staff and clean, comfortable rooms. But the experience is inconsistent, even by budget-motel standards.

Cockroach reports recur across recent booking-site reviews, alongside complaints about bathroom cleanliness and neglected repairs. Laundry and vending machines are repeatedly reported out of order. Pool reports conflict, with some 2026 guests finding it unusable and others enjoying it; confirm availability before booking. Highway noise is another trade-off, and the I-35 Capital Express Central construction adds uncertainty to driving around. We'd skip it if dependable cleanliness, quiet sleep or working amenities matter more than keeping costs down.

• Best for: Budget travelers with a car; Pet owners needing a brief stop

• Watch out for: Recurring cockroach and housekeeping complaints; Unreliable laundry, vending machines and pool availability; Highway noise and I-35 construction

• Location: North Central Austin beside I-35; reaching UT or downtown generally means driving.

• Rooms: Basic rooms with mixed comfort and maintenance reports; refrigerators and microwaves depend on room type.

• Cleanliness: Some guests praise clean rooms, but repeated recent pest and bathroom complaints undermine reliability.

• Service: Friendly front-desk staff receive frequent praise; maintenance follow-through is less consistent.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and parking; verify pool and coin-laundry operation rather than relying on listings.

• Fees and surprises: Pets stay free within the listed limits; no elevator, so request ground-floor accommodation if needed.
