Axel's take: 7.8/10

Fresh rooms and friendly staff make this a promising, not yet seamless, luxury pick. a renovated luxury downtown hotel, formerly the W, scored for what it is.

This is now a luxury JW Marriott, not a W: the downtown hotel completed its conversion in May 2026. We'd consider it for refreshed rooms, the skyline-view rooftop pool, and easy access to the aquarium and Centennial Olympic Park. Recent Hotels.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise welcoming staff and clean, comfortable rooms, giving the makeover substance beyond a new sign.

The reservation is consistency. Early JW Marriott reviews include service and housekeeping lapses alongside strong praise, and the post-conversion track record is still short. Older construction complaints largely predate the reopening, so they shouldn't define today's verdict. Valet parking and breakfast cost extra, and Marriott limits complimentary in-room Wi-Fi to qualifying direct bookings by Bonvoy members. It's a solid downtown base; we'd skip it if faultless luxury service is essential.

• Best for: downtown sightseeing; business travelers; couples wanting a rooftop pool

• Watch out for: uneven early post-conversion service; paid valet parking and breakfast; limited track record under the JW brand

• Location: Walkable to Centennial Olympic Park and the aquarium; Civic Center MARTA is nearby.

• Rooms: Renovated in 2026; recent guests praise comfortable beds, spacious rooms and showers.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength across sites, though housekeeping delivery has drawn some complaints.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise, but execution is not uniformly polished.

• Amenities: Rooftop outdoor pool, Nest Wellness Spa, fitness center, restaurants and bars.

• Fees and surprises: Valet and breakfast cost extra; free in-room Wi-Fi requires Bonvoy membership and direct booking.
