Axel's take: 7.8/10
A good-value Plaka base, provided you can live with dated rooms and cramped showers. A simple, family-run 2-star in central Plaka, scored for what it is.
Nefeli is a small, family-run 2-star in Plaka, and we'd choose it for sightseeing rather than spending much time indoors. Its strongest asset is the location: the Acropolis, Syntagma and plenty of tavernas are within walking distance. Tripadvisor, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, generally clean rooms and good value. Breakfast is simple, but many guests find it a useful start before exploring.
The compromise is the accommodation itself. Recent reviews describe ageing furniture and small showers; several guests report water escaping onto bathroom floors, with occasional bathroom odours also appearing across sites. These aren't universal experiences, but they're worth weighing against the convenient address. It's a good pick for an unfussy city break; we'd skip it if spacious bathrooms or consistently modern finishes matter.
-
Best for: Budget-conscious sightseers; Couples on short city breaks; Travelers exploring without a car
-
Watch out for: Small showers that can wet bathroom floors; Dated furnishings and variable room sizes; Occasional bathroom odours
-
Location: Central Plaka, within walking distance of the Acropolis, Syntagma and metro connections.
-
Rooms: Simple, air-conditioned rooms; dated furnishings and cramped showers are recurring criticisms.
-
Cleanliness: Generally praised, though bathroom upkeep and odours draw some complaints.
-
Service: Helpful, welcoming staff are a consistent strength; reception operates around the clock.
-
Amenities: Simple breakfast, Wi-Fi, daily housekeeping and luggage storage cover the essentials.
-
Fees and surprises: Airport transfers cost extra; parking is in a nearby paid facility, not on site.
