#2 of 2 hotels in Oranjestad by Axel's take. Oranjestad is #3 of 5 places to stay in Aruba. The best hotels in Oranjestad, ranked · Where to stay in Aruba

Axel's take: 7.8/10

A practical downtown base with strong housekeeping, but limited comforts and some renovation uncertainty. a simple budget hotel in central Oranjestad, not a beachfront resort, scored for what it is.

Victoria City Hotel is a simple budget hotel in central Oranjestad, best treated as a base for exploring rather than a resort. We'd shortlist it for a short, budget-conscious stay: Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff, while Tripadvisor feedback is more mixed. The upstairs terrace adds welcome space outside the often-small bedrooms. Shops and restaurants are walkable, but beach photos can mislead: this is not beachfront.

The compromises are compact rooms, no pool or elevator, and some reports of street or hallway noise and plumbing problems. Guests reported renovation noise, dust and awkward parking in early 2026; completion isn't confirmed, so check before booking. Breakfast can cost extra. We'd skip it for a beach-centered vacation or if spacious rooms and step-free access matter.

  • Best for: budget-conscious island explorers; short downtown stays; travelers prioritizing cleanliness over facilities

  • Watch out for: renovation completion unconfirmed; small rooms and occasional noise; no pool, elevator or beachfront access

  • Location: Central Oranjestad, with walkable shopping and dining; Surfside Beach is roughly a 15–20-minute walk.

  • Rooms: Often compact; comfort earns praise, but condition, soundproofing and plumbing draw some complaints.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Trip.com feedback.

  • Service: Mostly warm and helpful, though some guests describe uneven assistance; reception has limited hours.

  • Amenities: Upstairs terrace, free Wi-Fi, breakfast available and free parking; no pool or elevator.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast may be extra; early-2026 renovations disrupted parking and some stays—confirm current work before booking.
