San Pedro Town Centre & Boca del Rio
working island town · waterfront bars · Belizean food · golf-cart traffic
6.7/10
Stay here for town life and evenings without a golf cart.
Town’s character, dining choice and easier outings earn first place, with good hotels offset by traffic, music and only middling value.

Stay here for San Pedro without planning every outing. Barrier Reef Drive, Pescador Drive and Back Street put everyday town life beside cafes, shops and tour operators; north along the waterfront, Boca del Rio adds over-water bars and live music. This is our first choice for sociable travelers who want to step outside and find something happening.
The trade-off is activity rather than seclusion. Golf carts and amplified music make your exact street and room position important. Choose it for a first visit, varied meals and easy evenings; skip it if silence and swimming straight off a sandy beach are the whole point. Recent visitors also caution against assuming the eastern shoreline is an easy swimming beach.

- Skip it if
- You need consistently quiet nights; You want a secluded swimming-beach holiday
- Getting around
- Walk the town grid; Amber Isle launched town buses in October 2025, but reconfirm current service; from BZE fly to SPR, then walk or taxi, or take a taxi–ferry connection via Belize City and transfer from Coconut Drive.
- After dark
- Boca del Rio has live music and lively waterfront bars, including Rio Azul for big-screen sports; confirm your match and local screening time. Quieter rooms exist, so check the immediate neighbors rather than dismissing all downtown stays.
- Where to look
- Boca del Rio Drive. Start here for waterfront bars and sociable evenings; music makes this better for night owls than early sleepers.Coconut Drive by the airstrip. Handy for arrivals, casual meals and walking into town; expect activity rather than a secluded coastal retreat.Barrier Reef Drive near Central Park. Choose this central stretch for restaurants and everyday town life, with waterfront stops close at hand.
