Axel's take: 8.3/10

A dependable city base with welcoming staff, best explored from by car. a practical, mid-range 4-star business hotel on a busy Jeddah road, scored for what it is.

Centro Shaheen is a practical 4-star business hotel, and we'd pick it for a comfortable short stay rather than a resort-style break. Booking.com, Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff, with recent feedback keeping that reputation intact. The rooftop pool, 24-hour gym and free parking give this straightforward city hotel useful extras without pretending to be luxury.

The main compromise is outside: busy surrounding roads make walking and crossing streets awkward, even with shops nearby. Several guests also find standard rooms and bathrooms cramped; Rotana lists larger studios and connecting rooms if space matters. Breakfast generally earns praise, though variety divides opinion. It's a strong fit for business travelers and visitors using taxis; we'd skip it for a walk-everywhere holiday or a beach-focused stay.

• Best for: business travelers; short city stays with a car; couples using taxis to explore

• Watch out for: busy roads and awkward pedestrian crossings; compact standard rooms and bathrooms; some road-facing rooms hear traffic

• Location: Useful Al Madinah Road base for driving, but surrounding traffic limits comfortable walking.

• Rooms: Standard rooms are 27 square meters; some guests find them tight, with larger studios and connecting options available.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong across booking sites, including recent guest feedback.

• Service: Welcoming, helpful staff are a recurring strength, despite occasional reports of slow responses.

• Amenities: Rooftop pool, 24-hour gym, on-site dining and free parking cover the practical essentials.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast depends on the booking; airport transfers, extra beds and early check-in can cost extra.
