Axel's take: 8.3/10

Strong budget value near the center, but traffic noise is the catch. A no-frills 3-star near Mexico City’s historic center, scored for what it is.

Frida Costa Azul is a no-frills 3-star that gets the budget essentials right: cleanliness, helpful staff and convenient sightseeing access. It now appears as VOS Centro on its official website and Expedia, at the same address. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean rooms and good value, with Isabel la Católica metro nearby and the Zócalo roughly a 15-minute walk away. It’s a strong pick if you’ll spend most of your time exploring rather than in the hotel.

The main compromise is sleep: traffic, motorcycles and sirens repeatedly feature in reviews, especially for street-facing rooms. Ask for an interior room, though quiet isn’t guaranteed. Some guests also find the mattresses hard; rooms generally rely on fans rather than air-conditioning. A September 2026 guest reported overnight streetworks, so check whether those have finished. We’d skip it if quiet nights or plush comfort are priorities.

• Best for: Budget-conscious city explorers; Travelers using the metro; Short sightseeing stays

• Watch out for: Persistent traffic noise in street-facing rooms; Firm mattresses and fan-cooled rooms; Confirm whether nearby overnight streetworks have finished

• Location: Close to Isabel la Católica metro; roughly 15 minutes on foot to the Zócalo.

• Rooms: Simple, functional rooms; some guests find beds hard, and air-conditioning should not be assumed.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Agoda feedback.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff receive frequent praise; reception is staffed around the clock.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, limited free parking, room service and a small gym; Wi-Fi performance gets mixed feedback.

• Fees and surprises: Now marketed as VOS Centro; reserve parking ahead, and expect charges for airport transfers and early check-in.
