Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong Kingston base for Jamaican breakfast, spacious rooms and traditional character. a traditional 4-star boutique hotel with spacious suites in uptown Kingston, scored for what it is.

Terra Nova is a traditional 4-star boutique hotel, and we'd choose it for Kingston business trips or city stays where character matters more than contemporary design. Its spacious accommodation and garden setting give it a distinctive feel. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise the Jamaican buffet breakfast, helpful staff and comfortable, clean rooms. The location near Devon House is another practical strength.

The reservation is condition rather than comfort: several recent guests mention tired furnishings or bathrooms needing attention, although positive cleanliness reports comfortably outweigh complaints. This is an established hotel, not a freshly polished luxury property. Expedia also lists no elevators, so confirm a suitable room if stairs are difficult. It's a strong pick for travelers who appreciate traditional surroundings; we'd skip it if spotless modern finishes and step-free access are essential.

• Best for: business travelers; couples exploring Kingston; travelers who prioritize Jamaican food

• Watch out for: some dated furnishings and bathrooms; no elevators; airport transfers cost extra

• Location: Uptown Kingston near Devon House, convenient for shopping and business appointments.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, with traditional décor and some recurring maintenance complaints.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest ratings; recent reviews predominantly describe clean rooms.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength, despite occasional reports of slow service.

• Amenities: Buffet breakfast, outdoor pool, gym, restaurants and gaming lounge; free parking and Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a per-stay deposit and paid airport transfers; confirm arrangements before arrival.
