Axel's take: 7.1/10

A practical downtown base, but friendly staff cannot erase tired rooms and extra fees. A basic 3-star hotel on SoHo’s western edge, scored for what it is.

SoHo 54 is a basic 3-star hotel best chosen for exploring downtown, not spending much time indoors. We'd consider it for the walkable location and helpful reception team: Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently rate those strengths above the facilities. Overall guest ratings remain good rather than exceptional.

The compromises are dated rooms, uneven housekeeping, Holland Tunnel traffic noise and recent reports of elevator outages. A mandatory nightly facility fee also weakens the value. The official website advertises a rooftop terrace and bar, but an October 2026 Expedia guest reported both closed; confirm availability rather than booking around them. We'd skip it for light sleepers or anyone expecting a polished hotel, but it remains a workable sightseeing base if location matters most.

• Best for: Downtown sightseeing trips; Travelers prioritizing location over polish

• Watch out for: Traffic noise and dated rooms; Mandatory nightly facility fee; Reported elevator outages and terrace/bar closures

• Location: Walkable for SoHo restaurants and shopping, with Canal Street subway stops nearby.

• Rooms: Basic comfort with variable views; recent guests repeatedly flag dated condition and noise.

• Cleanliness: Generally positive aggregate scores, tempered by recurring reports of inconsistent cleaning.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception staff are one of the most consistent positives.

• Amenities: Small gym and round-the-clock coffee; confirm advertised terrace and bar access after a recent closure report.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory nightly facility fee covers basic amenities; no on-site parking.
