Axel's take: 8.8/10

A strong Midtown boutique choice for attentive service, with compact rooms and breakfast caveats. a historic upscale boutique hotel on a quieter Midtown side street, scored for what it is.

The Iroquois is a historic upscale boutique hotel that gets the important things right: cleanliness, personal service and a Midtown location without being directly in Times Square’s bustle. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, comfortable beds and well-kept rooms. It’s a strong pick for theater trips and sightseeing, with Bryant Park nearby and da Toscano and Lantern’s Keep adding appealing dining and cocktail options.

The main compromise is space: entry-level queens are 200 square feet, and some guests report limited outlooks. Breakfast also needs careful reading. The nightly facility fee includes up to two vouchers for selected menu items, not unrestricted breakfast; recent guests mention limited choices and occasional service delays. We’d skip it if generous rooms, skyline views or extensive luxury facilities matter more than location and hospitality.

• Best for: couples on theater weekends; first-time Manhattan visitors; travelers who prefer smaller hotels

• Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms and limited outlooks; nightly facility fee; restricted breakfast vouchers and occasional delays

• Location: Quieter West 44th Street setting, convenient for Broadway, Bryant Park and Midtown subway connections.

• Rooms: Comfortable, traditionally styled rooms; Superior Queens start at 200 square feet, so choose categories carefully.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guest reviews.

• Service: Warm, helpful staff earn repeated praise; breakfast service is less consistently smooth.

• Amenities: Italian restaurant, cocktail bar, 24-hour gym and Finnish sauna; no on-site spa.

• Fees and surprises: Nightly facility fee includes up to two restricted breakfast vouchers; nearby parking costs extra.
