Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong old-town base, with excellent staff and breakfast but some tired rooms. a practical 4-star boutique hotel in Málaga’s pedestrian old town, scored for what it is.

Petit Palace Plaza Málaga is a practical 4-star boutique hotel whose strongest feature is its old-town address, just off Calle Larios and Plaza de la Constitución. It’s a strong pick for exploring Málaga on foot rather than spending the day at the hotel. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the helpful staff, generous breakfast and clean, comfortable rooms. Family rooms accommodating four are another useful advantage.

The compromise is polish: several guests describe aging rooms and bathrooms, so expect dependable city-break comfort rather than a particularly refined four-star experience. Some also report intrusive street noise; light sleepers should request a quieter room. The pedestrian setting means no parking at the door, with the nearest parking around 400 metres away. We’d skip it for a beach-focused holiday or if fresh interiors matter more than location.

• Best for: car-free sightseeing breaks; families wanting one room; travelers prioritizing breakfast and service

• Watch out for: some dated rooms and bathrooms; street noise in some rooms; pedestrian access and off-site parking

• Location: Excellent old-town position beside Calle Larios; a sightseeing base, not a beachfront hotel.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable, with family options for four; recurring comments about dated finishes.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, reinforced by many recent positive reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful reception and breakfast staff are consistent strengths across sites.

• Amenities: Buffet breakfast, free Wi-Fi, loan bicycles and a courtyard; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking.

• Fees and surprises: Paid public parking nearby; pets incur a supplement unless booked through the official website.
