Axel's take: 6.4/10

A workable budget base, but uneven housekeeping makes it a cautious choice. A no-frills 2-star motel in SoMa, scored for what it is.

San Francisco Inn is a no-frills 2-star motel in SoMa, best considered for a short, practical stay rather than a San Francisco getaway. Guest ratings suggest an adequate budget option overall, with staff friendliness a stronger point than the building’s condition. Some guests praise comfortable beds and updated bathrooms; Market Street transit and Civic Center are within walking distance.

The catch is consistency. Expedia and Trip.com carry recent complaints about dirty bathrooms, missing towels and maintenance, alongside reports of clean, perfectly serviceable rooms. Some rooms were reportedly updated in 2025, but that has not eliminated complaints. The surrounding streets also divide guests. Parking is advertised as free, yet multiple travelers report charges, so confirm before arriving. We'd skip it if reliable cleanliness, step-free room access or a comfortable evening stroll matters more than keeping costs down.

• Best for: Budget travelers comfortable with urban surroundings; Short stays near Civic Center

• Watch out for: Uneven housekeeping and room maintenance; No elevator; Parking charges reported despite free-parking listings

• Location: SoMa base within walking distance of Market Street transit; guests disagree about comfort in the surrounding streets.

• Rooms: Some updated rooms and comfortable beds, but condition varies and maintenance complaints continue.

• Cleanliness: Mixed: clean-room praise sits alongside repeated recent bathroom, linen and odor complaints.

• Service: Friendliness earns frequent praise, though problem handling is less consistent.

• Amenities: Basic air-conditioned accommodation with Wi-Fi and in-room refrigerators; no elevator.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a deposit; confirm parking charges and late-arrival arrangements directly.
