Axel's take: 9.1/10

Polished boutique luxury with excellent staff, but fitness facilities are off-site. a luxury boutique hotel in downtown Vancouver, scored for what it is.

AZUR is a luxury boutique hotel in downtown Vancouver, and a strong pick if comfortable rooms and attentive service matter more than extensive facilities. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the cleanliness, helpful staff and comfortable beds. Art Deco styling, marble bathrooms and heated bathroom floors give it a distinctive character. The location works particularly well for downtown business, sightseeing and stays before a cruise.

The main compromise is the lack of an on-site pool or gym: guests receive access to the nearby YWCA instead. Some rooms feel compact, and this is a downtown address rather than a waterfront-view hotel. Lavantine’s rooftop dining adds appeal, but valet parking costs extra and breakfast depends on your booking. We’d skip it if swimming without leaving the building or having generous luggage space is essential.

• Best for: couples wanting boutique luxury; downtown business travelers; pre-cruise stays

• Watch out for: pool and gym are off-site; some rooms feel compact; paid valet parking

• Location: Central downtown base within walking distance of Canada Place, shopping and SkyTrain stations.

• Rooms: Well-finished Art Deco interiors and comfortable beds; check room size if traveling with large suitcases.

• Cleanliness: Consistently strong praise across Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia.

• Service: Warm, helpful front-desk and concierge service is a recurring strength.

• Amenities: Dahlia and Lavantine rooftop dining; complimentary nearby YWCA access replaces an on-site pool and gym.

• Fees and surprises: Valet and EV parking cost extra; breakfast inclusion varies; pets are not accepted except service animals.
