Axel's take: 7.4/10

A practical driving base with useful freebies, but little polish. a no-frills, motel-style budget hotel beside Route 4, scored for what it is.

Best Western Fort Lee is a no-frills, motel-style budget hotel beside Route 4, best approached as a practical overnight stop rather than a New York vacation destination. Free parking and hot breakfast make it a sensible pick for drivers visiting Fort Lee or Upper Manhattan. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff, while Tripadvisor guests also highlight comfortable beds and convenient bridge access.

The trade-off is an older property with limited amenities and less consistent appeal than Expedia's overall rating alone suggests; Booking.com guests are more reserved. Highway access can feel awkward, and this is a better fit for travelers with a car than anyone seeking a walkable neighborhood base. We'd choose it for a straightforward short stay, but skip it for modern surroundings or a full-service hotel experience.

• Best for: Budget-conscious drivers; Short Fort Lee stays; Upper Manhattan visits by car

• Watch out for: Older, motel-style surroundings; Awkward highway entrance; Limited amenities

• Location: Route 4 near the George Washington Bridge; more practical for drivers than pedestrians.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable basics, but the property's age remains noticeable.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia reviews mostly praise clean rooms; Booking.com's cleanliness rating is more moderate.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a recurring strength across Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Amenities: Free hot breakfast, parking and Wi-Fi, plus a fitness room; no pool.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists an incidental deposit; late checkout and rollaway beds can cost extra.
