Axel's take: 8.9/10

A polished Midtown base with standout staff and a genuinely useful terrace lounge. a contemporary 4-star boutique hotel beside Bryant Park, scored for what it is.

Park Terrace is a contemporary 4-star boutique hotel beside Bryant Park, and a strong pick for travelers who want Midtown convenience without sleeping in Times Square. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and comfortable beds; recent reviews also highlight surprisingly quiet nights. Branch, the sixth-floor lounge and terrace available to hotel guests, gives it an appealing place to work or unwind beyond the bedroom.

The main compromise is room choice: entry-level rooms are compact, and a park-side address does not guarantee a park view. Check the exact category rather than relying on the photographs. Booking.com also lists a nightly resort fee, while parking is off-site and paid. We'd choose it for couples or business trips, but look elsewhere for sprawling rooms; families should note that Branch admits children only until 5pm.

• Best for: couples exploring Midtown; business travelers who appreciate lounge space; first-time New York visitors

• Watch out for: compact entry-level rooms and category-dependent views; nightly resort fee; children allowed in Branch only until 5pm

• Location: Beside Bryant Park and the library, with subway stations and major Midtown sights within walking distance.

• Rooms: Modern and comfortable; smaller categories are compact, so book explicitly for extra space or a view.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise across the major review sites.

• Amenities: Branch lounge and terrace, a 24-hour gym, and La Pecora Bianca dining and room service.

• Fees and surprises: Booking.com lists a nightly resort fee; parking is paid and off-site, and Branch has evening age restrictions.
