Axel's take: 7.7/10

A convenient Midtown base, but ongoing elevator work makes it a conditional pick. a practical 3-star Midtown hotel with free breakfast, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star near Herald Square is a good fit for sightseeing-heavy trips: the Empire State Building, Bryant Park and several subway lines are close by, and breakfast is included. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. We'd consider it a sensible Midtown base rather than a hotel to build a special occasion around.

The important catch is the elevator renovation, still mentioned by guests and acknowledged by management in October 2026. Reports range from minimal disruption to substantial waits with only one elevator operating. Street noise and some tired interiors also recur. We'd book only after checking the elevator project's status; travelers who depend on reliable elevator access or want a quiet, polished retreat should look elsewhere.

• Best for: sightseeing-focused couples; families wanting breakfast included; travelers prioritizing Midtown access

• Watch out for: ongoing elevator renovation and potentially long waits; street noise; some dated interiors

• Location: Walkable to major Midtown sights, with Herald Square subway connections nearby.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and several family-friendly layouts; some guests find the interiors tired.

• Cleanliness: Generally a strength, with repeated praise across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Service: Staff are frequently praised as friendly and helpful, including during elevator disruption.

• Amenities: Free breakfast and Wi-Fi, a 24-hour gym and a rooftop terrace.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly incidental deposit; nearby parking and pets cost extra. Confirm elevator access before booking.
