Axel's take: 8.3/10

Choose it for Manhattan breathing room, not uniformly polished luxury. A historic 4-star apartment-style hotel in Midtown East, scored for what it is.

The Lombardy is a historic 4-star apartment-style hotel whose strongest selling point is space. We'd pick it for families or longer Midtown stays: studios have kitchenettes, while larger suites offer separate living areas and kitchens. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise generous rooms, comfortable beds, cleanliness and helpful staff. Fifth Avenue, Central Park and subway connections are within walking distance, without being in the thick of Times Square.

The catch is consistency. Rooms are individually decorated, and guests describe both refreshed interiors and bathrooms or kitchens needing attention; kitchen equipment can also be sparse. There's a mandatory nightly facility fee, plus separate parking charges. Exterior renovation restricted a guest's balcony in June 2026, so confirm the work's status before booking outdoor space. We'd skip it if matching the photos exactly or getting consistently modern luxury matters more than room to spread out.

• Best for: Families needing separate living space; Longer stays with kitchen facilities; Midtown sightseeing without Times Square bustle

• Watch out for: Room condition and kitchen equipment vary; Mandatory nightly facility fee; Confirm exterior work and balcony access

• Location: Walkable Midtown East base near Fifth Avenue, Central Park and Lexington Avenue subway connections.

• Rooms: Spacious studios and suites; individually furnished interiors mean finish and layout vary.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across Tripadvisor and Expedia, despite occasional individual complaints.

• Service: Helpful, professional staff receive frequent praise; problem handling is not universally consistent.

• Amenities: Kitchenettes or kitchens in relevant categories, a modest gym, salon and Reserve Cut steakhouse.

• Fees and surprises: Nightly facility fee; parking and pets cost extra; June 2026 exterior work affected balcony access.
