Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong Broadway base with roomy accommodation and a few big-hotel frustrations. a renovated, upscale 4-star in the heart of the Theater District, scored for what it is.

Hyatt Regency Times Square is an upscale 4-star in the former Crowne Plaza. The former Crowne Plaza reopened under Hyatt in July 2025 after a major renovation, and we'd pick it for a theater-focused trip. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean, unusually spacious rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. High-floor rooms also earn strong marks for keeping much of Times Square's noise outside. Broadway theaters and several subway lines are close by.

The trade-offs are the crowds outside and a daily destination fee. Service is mostly well reviewed, but recent Tripadvisor and Reddit accounts flag billing problems and uneven follow-through, so check your final bill. There's a gym and restaurant, but no pool, club lounge or in-room coffee maker. We'd skip it for a quieter neighborhood stay or a more intimate, polished hotel experience.

• Best for: Broadway-focused trips; First-time New York visitors; Families wanting more room

• Watch out for: Daily destination fee; Times Square crowds; Occasional billing and service problems

• Location: Excellent for theaters and subway access, but the surrounding sidewalks are intensely busy.

• Rooms: Renovated, spacious by Manhattan standards and generally quiet; minifridges included, coffee makers absent.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, with some repeated complaints about billing and problem resolution.

• Amenities: Fitness center, Cue48 restaurant and bar, and room delivery; no pool or club lounge.

• Fees and surprises: Daily destination fee; breakfast and valet parking cost extra, and valet has no in/out privileges.
