Axel's take: 8.5/10

A characterful studio-trip base that gets the basics right, with some dated edges. A retro 3-star motor inn near Burbank’s studios, scored for what it is.

Safari Inn is a retro 3-star motor inn, not a full-service resort, and it’s a strong pick for Universal and Warner Bros. visits. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and friendly staff; the heated outdoor pool and distinctive neon sign give this practical base some personality. Free shuttles to the studios and Burbank Airport are genuinely useful, provided you reserve ahead.

The trade-offs are mostly motel ones: straightforward interiors, some reports of tired bathrooms and uneven bed comfort, and a tight parking lot that costs extra. Overall feedback remains strongly positive, so we wouldn’t let scattered complaints overshadow its reliable basics. Book shuttle seats early, especially for Universal. We’d skip it if you want polished contemporary rooms or the convenience of staying within walking distance of the park.

• Best for: Families visiting Universal and Warner Bros.; Travelers who enjoy retro motels; Burbank Airport arrivals using the shuttle

• Watch out for: Paid parking with tight spaces; Limited shuttle seats require advance booking; Some dated rooms and bathrooms

• Location: Convenient for studio visits and Burbank Airport, but not a walk-to-Universal location.

• Rooms: Simple motel-style rooms with mini-fridges; some have kitchens, and condition feedback varies.

• Cleanliness: Clean rooms are a strong recurring positive, despite occasional housekeeping complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive consistent praise across recent guest reviews.

• Amenities: Heated outdoor pool, fitness room, laundry and free reserved shuttles; Arya is now open at the sister property.

• Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra and spaces are limited; shuttle seats are not guaranteed without reservations.
