Hotels in Honolulua 4-star vacation-club hotel beside the marina at Waikiki’s western edge
7.8/10
Strong on staff and location, but current disruptions make it a conditional pick.
The Modern is a 4-star vacation-club hotel beside the marina, better for a practical Honolulu base than a full-service beachfront escape. Expedia and Booking.com guests consistently praise clean rooms and friendly staff. Nearby beaches and Ala Moana shopping are walkable, and the pools are a draw. We'd consider it for travelers who spend much of the day exploring rather than expecting resort pampering.
Right now, there are substantial caveats. Renovations are scheduled through December 31, 2026, with daytime work advertised from 9am to 6pm. Hilton also says the hotel is operating on temporary power after Hurricane Lala, with The Grove limited to noon–6pm and a reduced food menu. Recent Tripadvisor guests flag elevator noise and uneven room condition during the refurbishment. Add the daily resort charge, paid parking and 10am checkout, and we'd skip it for light sleepers or a special-occasion beach holiday.
Axel's opinion, from the hotel's website and recent guest reviews, scored for what the hotel is. Sources: Hotel website · Booking.com · Expedia · Hotels.com · Tripadvisor · Agoda. Reviewed Oct 15, 2026.

Strong on staff and location, but current disruptions make it a conditional pick. a 4-star vacation-club hotel beside the marina at Waikiki’s western edge, scored for what it is.
Best for: travelers exploring Honolulu; Ala Moana shopping trips; beachgoers comfortable with a walk
Watch out for: renovations through December 31, 2026; temporary power and reduced dining; elevator noise in some rooms
Location: Marina-side at Waikiki’s western edge; walkable to nearby beaches and Ala Moana, not directly beachfront.
Rooms: Cleanliness and comfort earn praise, but refurbished and older rooms coexist; elevator noise recurs in reviews.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Hotels.com guest comments.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive repeated praise across booking and review sites.
Amenities: Two outdoor pools and a gym; Hilton currently reports temporary power and reduced Grove dining.
Fees and surprises: Daily resort charge, paid self-parking and 10am checkout; confirm renovation impacts before booking.
