  • You already hold a flight booked elsewhere on American, Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest or United. You can add it to Axel by connecting Gmail or forwarding the confirmation, and Axel watches its fare too.

When the price drops after you book

Trip.com's flight Price Guarantee promises that the price will not change after your payment is confirmed, and that Trip.com covers the difference if a ticket fails to issue through its fault. That protects the price you paid; it is not a price-drop guarantee. We found no post-booking price-drop refund or automatic repricing on Trip.com.

Axel keeps watching the fare on the flight you booked. When the fare drops, it secures the saving on the same flight, usually as airline credit and sometimes as a refund. It is never guaranteed. Members ($15 the first month, then $10 a month) keep 100% of the saving; without Membership, Axel's fee is 25% of the amount saved. Applying the saving to the same flight is not a change, and Axel never changes a booking without asking. Flights booked elsewhere on American, Alaska, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest or United can be added by connecting Gmail or forwarding the confirmation. Axel does not reprice hotels; it encourages comparing a hotel booking with Axel's price and switching when there is a saving.

What Trip.com's guarantees cover

Trip.com publishes a Service Guarantee with set remedies. The Room Guarantee pays price differences, up to the first night's rate, if a property cannot honor a confirmed booking. The flight Booking Guarantee covers up to a refund plus a replacement ticket if you cannot board because of Trip.com's error. Advance Compensation applies when Trip.com is at fault, and Trip.com says it will make every effort to negotiate cancellations for documented medical emergencies.

There are limits. The Price Guarantee fixes the price you paid; it does not cover a later drop. Ryanair bookings are excluded from all of Trip.com's service guarantees.

Trip.com's 2026 antitrust penalty in China

In July 2026 Trip.com Group accepted a penalty from China's State Administration for Market Regulation under the Anti-Monopoly Law. Skift puts the total at RMB 5.2 billion (about $770 million), made up of a fine, confiscated gains and an order to refund hotels' withheld security deposits.

Skift reports that the regulator found Trip.com used traffic allocation, platform rules and technical measures to secure exclusive and "lowest price across the internet" arrangements from hotels. The case concerns pressure on hotels in mainland China, not how travelers were treated. Trip.com said it "sincerely accepts" the decision.

Questions travelers ask

Is Axel cheaper than Trip.com?

It depends on the trip, and we have not compared the two on the same flight. We found no such refund. Trip.com's Price Guarantee means the price will not change after payment is confirmed. Axel keeps watching the fare after you book and, when it drops, secures the saving on the same flight, usually as airline credit and sometimes as a refund. It is never guaranteed. Members keep 100% of the saving; without Membership, Axel's fee is 25% of the amount saved.

Trip.com's Terms (updated Aug 25, 2026) describe no separate booking fee, and change and cancellation fees are shown during booking. Axel charges no booking fees, and its listed price includes taxes.

What can Trip.com book that Axel cannot?

No. Trip.com Group accepted a penalty of about $770 million (RMB 5.2 billion) in July 2026 under China's Anti-Monopoly Law. It concerned pressure on hotels in mainland China, including exclusivity and "lowest price" arrangements, not how travelers were treated.

How this comparison was made

  • Axel wrote this comparison. Axel sells flights and hotels, so read it as one company's view of another: every fact about Trip.com links to its source, and the page says where Trip.com is the better choice.
  • Facts about Trip.com come from its own help, terms and pricing pages first, then regulators and the press, all checked on Oct 26, 2026. Where something could not be confirmed, the page leaves it out.
  • Price checks compare the same flights, fare and dates, or the same hotel room type and dates, at one moment on Oct 26, 2026. Other sellers' prices are as listed before checkout. Prices change constantly, and Axel is not always the lowest.
